About Us
Our History
The David and Minnie Berk Foundation was created in 1961 by the family and friends of David and Minnie Berk and the members of the Progressive Synagogue, Brooklyn, N.Y. in honor of David and Minnie Berk's many years of service to their community. Although the original intention of the Foundation was to provide educational scholarships, it became known for the Max Berg award for “prolonging and improving the quality of life.” Over the years, the foundation has provided grants to small charitable organizations working in the areas of the arts, education, and social services for youth, the elderly, and the needy.
The Berk Foundation Today
Today the Berk Foundation consists of members and friends of the Berk Family. We are all volunteers and we work hard to give applicants a fair hearing. We do get a great many proposals so please be clear and succinct and recognize that we cannot provide feedback or extensive interaction.
